Carpets And Pets – Where To Start?

Our pets are seen as part of the family, so it’s no surprise we let them enjoy the comforts of our home! When carpets come into the question mind, it can be quite hard to keep up with your furry friends running around freely. Whether you’re thinking of installing a new carpet or freshening up the one you currently have, take a look through our blog where we discuss some tips to get the best out of your carpets with your pets.

Consider Stain Resistant Carpet

The best way to remove stains is to prevent them in the first place! If you’re able, stain resistant carpets are one of the best options if you have pets. While this type of carpet can be more expensive, it also lasts a lot longer. Stain-resistant carpets already have a protective coating applied on top of the fibres, meaning getting rid of stains, dirt and marks is a lot easier.

Colour and Pattern Choice

The colour of your pet’s fur can be a deciding factor when choosing what carpet to go for. As most animals may malt from time to time, picking a light coloured carpet could be a lot of maintenance if your pet’s fur is dark. Essentially, you want to choose a colour that won’t highlight their fur, in order to reduce the amount of cleaning and hoovering needed. Also, it helps to keep your room looking stylish and new on a day-to-day basis.

Additionally, patterned carpets could be a great choice for your home. Not only do they make a stunning feature in any room, they are also great at concealing possible fur, stains and marks.

The Type of Pile

There are two main types of pile: cut and loop. Loop carpets feature individual threads coming up from the bottom then looping back down. In comparison, cut carpets are straight-up, straight- down threads. As you can imagine, loop carpets can present a problem for those with pets, especially cats. They love to play, so their claws can pull on the loops and cause loose threads, resulting in a worn, messy looking carpet. Cut pile doesn’t pose this same issue, as your pets claws are less likely to get caught on a straight thread.
